An Ocean of Plastic: the Seventh Continent

During the last European Parliament Plenary Session held in February 2020, the Members of the European Parliament (MEP) rejected European Commission’s proposal that was allowing the presence of lead in recycled PVC.

Lead is a toxic substance that has a negative effect on any living human or animal and their habitats. The MEP considered that the Commission proposal was going against the objective of the REACH Regulation which is protecting human health and the environment.

But lead is not the only harmful substance that could be found in plastic. The persistent organic pollutants (POPs) also have adverse impacts on human and environmental health.

The good news is we can minimize our use of plastic and even reduce it to zero.
